The Problem
PledgeMusic offers musicians the ability to create and self-manage their own e-commerce shops. The existing system was complicated and difficult to use, leading to errors in pricing, specifying details, and managing inventory. The system also needed to work for larger bands, who need regional geoblocking, landed currency pricing, and other advanced options.
The Process
Various rounds of interviews with internal users, artists who had used the old system, and artists new to Pledge identified key pain points and opportunities for improvement. By working closely with independent artists, record labels, and shipping and fulfillment teams, we came up with a system that’s intuitive while allowing for layers of advanced features.

The Product
The final design was run in beta as projects were moved over from the old system to the new stores. Upon release, new and existing users loved the ability to take control of their own music and merchandise sales. Shipping calculators, item variations, and customization options were added in sprints over the ensuing months.
